Project DAWN at Townhall II
Townhall II works with Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) to provide free Narcan kits to the public. Narcan is the brand name for the most common formulation of Naloxone. If your organization would like to participate, please contact us at 330-678-3006, or stop by Townhall II’s main office at 155 N. Water St. in Kent, where we stock Narcan kits in our new, free harm reduction vending machine.
Project DAWN saves lives with fast-acting Narcan. Narcan works to block opioid receptors and interrupt an overdose reaction.
How long does Narcan take to work?
Nasal spray Narcan, or Naloxone, typically takes effect in two to three minutes. If the person does not wake up in that time frame, you can apply a second dose. Rescue breathing should be done until the Narcan takes effect. It’s important to note that Narcan only works to prevent opioid overdose and will not have a resuscitating effect on other conditions.
How is Narcan (Naloxone) administered?
Townhall II makes Narcan available as a nasal spray. Apply the spray bottle to the victim’s nostril as directed on the packaging.
Can you take Narcan home with you?
Narcan is not addictive and is considered safe for use in home emergencies. The American Public Health Association and the American Medical Association both support the availability of take-home Naloxone.
